The spiritual worldview of the Andean man along with his personal relationship to mother nature gave way for the Inkas to conduct certain rituals and ceremonies. This was the way that the priests were connected to the gods, deities and sacred mountains. They were responsible for carrying out these ceremonies of sacrifices and rituals to express their gratitude in exchange for eliminating negative outcomes or events. They also used these ceremonies to diagnose and treat illnesses, meet with spirits, divine the future, and find other answers in life. Our customs and traditions are still in practice and passed down by Shamans who conduct these ceremonies. These ceremonies are carried out in sacred places for best results.
Tourists who perform these ceremonies are surprised when they are offered these sacred leaves to consume. They are the same leaves that were used to conduct the ancient coca leaf readings.
The Andean priest or teacher takes the leaves and throws it over a sheet of ceremonial objects. The prediction is interpreted by the way the leaves are positioned when they fall. It also predicts your destiny whether is a positive or negative one.
For those who are skeptic, we recommend this ritual not as way to know your future, but to experience the Inka traditions and its contemporary legacies.
Our ancestors have always carried out activities of gratitude to the Pachamama (Mother nature) for everything they have given us. These ceremonies were conducted by Andean priests in sacred places.
These ceremonies are still being conducted and take place the 1st of August, which is the most important month because its believed to be the time when the earth is most thirsty.
Offering to the Pachamama contains coca leaves, cereal seeds, silver, sullus (the stomach of a sheep fetus), chicha (drink made out of purple corn), wine, animal grease, sweets and huairuros (red and black seeds from lowland Peru). In this ceremony, the priest invokes the Apus (spirits of the mountains) and offers these gatherings and then solicits something of personal need.
LAyahuasca or spiritual path is a ceremony that is conducted by Andean priests or shamans. The purpose of this ritual known as Ayahuasca is for healing.
Ayahuasca is a sacred plant that grows in the Amazons, especially in Peru. This plant was used by ancient Peruvians to amplify their levels of conscious, find internal harmony, and see beyond what the mind does not allow. Our Inka ancestors brought these to initiation ceremonies for the future priests and to cure people of different illnesses, fears, bad habits, and to clarify your pathway in life.
This ritual is generally conducted at night by shaman experts where he prepares a concoction using the ayahuasca plant as the main ingredient. People who drink this experience visions in which your ancestors may appear, can identify your fears, reveal your future or clarify your purpose in life, etc
The Wachuma is a sacred plant used by the Inka priests to conduct concoctions and fortifies people’s internal energy, overcome their fears, and cure certain illnesses. During this ceremony, it is possible to see your future, therefore is it a way you can prevent some negative things. It is recommended to follow a rigorous diet before and after the ceremony. By other means, this ceremony also helps you understand and appreciate nature better.
The effects of this drink lasts for various hours in which people who drink it must induce vomiting to get rid of the ingredients causing these visions. If you decide to do ayahuasca in Cuzco, we recommend doing it with experts in the field.
