Come and experience this amazing Choquequirao trek. Hiking Choquequirao will leave you with memories that you shall never forget in your life.
It is located in the Apurimac canyon in a strategically geographical zone between the Andean mountains and the edge of the rainforest.
We will leave from Cusco via Abancay until we reach the town of Cachora where we will begin our hike. During our adventure you will be able to enjoy the mountains, animals that are indigenous to the region of flora and wild fauna. After the challenging and worthwhile hike, we will arrive at the citadel of Choquequirao.
Choquequirao is considered a sacred place and a ceremonial center of water ritual where the Priest and virgins lived. After the Spanish invasion, it was used as the last Inca refuge.
Departure from Cusco by bus to Cachora. Cachora is situated at an altitude of 3400 meters (11,000 ft.), and it is from here that our hike will begin. In the first stretch, you will appreciate the beautiful Andean landscapes, passing through “el Mirador de Capuliyoq”, where you can see from afar the Incan site of Choquequirao. We will then start to climb down to playa Rosalina where we will begin our first campsite. The location has an altitude of 1500 meters (5,000 feet). The first stretch has a distance of 18 km (11 miles), and is about 7 to 8 hours of hiking.
This is an uphill hike to Santa Rosa, located 2100 meters above sea level (6,900 ft). We will be passing by Marampampa until we reach our endpoint ‘Choquequirao’, located 3035 meters above sea level (10,000 ft.). We will set up our second campsite here. This day is considered the most challenging one since majority of the hike is uphill. Duration time is 6 to 7 hours with a distance of 13 km (8 miles).
This is the day where we visit the mystical site of Choquequirao and then head back. We will arrive at a different location known as Chiquispa, where we will set up our third campsite. This hike is much simpler as it is a descending one. It runs about 14 km (8.6 miles) and should be around 5 to 6 hours.
On the fourth day, after having a long and adventurous journey, we return to the town of Cachora to take a bus back to Cusco.
